Experiment One: The Datum

ADDRESSING THE CRITERIA

THE THREE WORDS (10%): Whimsical, Ensorcell & Futuristic.

THE 18 SKETCH SECTIONS (10%): (as per previous blog post)

THE 36 CUSTOM TEXTURES (10%): (as per previous blog post)

THE DEVELOPED STAIR (20%) and THE ARCHITECTURE (50%): The surface architecture is presented as a single dome structure, with the working space of the client Mountain and Moon located on the mezzanine. The dome itself reflects all three words, with the staircases for each client focused to a specific single word: for Mountain and Moon, 'Ensorcell', and for The Kyza, 'futuristic'. The architecture of the stairs is sympathetic and complimentary to the void (or for the below ground client, The Kyza, the lack thereof) around them, making the staircases in both instances the focus of the space - a simple way to keep the attention of prospective buyers on the products being presented.

The below ground staircase for The Kyza draws on the artists own medium, and incorporates hyper-realistic images of the client’s artwork. The presenter triggers digital projections of a portion of the work on the corresponding stair panel with each step they take towards the client, revealing more and more of the completed work upon descent.  This stair doesn't just become a feature of the space; it becomes the completed work itself, incorporating a distinct and significant approach which nods to the @the_Kyza's own methodology.

The above ground staircase for Mountain and Moon pays tribute to both the enchanting nature of the creators work, and the momentous calling of their business. Wrapped in a glass 'moon', and mountain like for its unopposed views at every level, this staircase ascends to the heavens. Supported by gold-tone steel rods that attach to the base or roof of the building, the support then runs through the stairs themselves, weaving a key component of the makers jewelry into the stairs themselves.
